In this post I will be talking about my progress in the new season and how we have done in the Champions League. These are the fixtures for the next two months. I am expecting an unbeaten season in the league this year and if we can’t achieve that then at least an unbeaten season at home would be nice.
Greek Superleague Results
The opening game of the season was against PAOK, the team I beat in last years Greek Cup Final, and I was expecting a very tough game. In all honesty we absolutely battered them and I just can’t believe we didn’t score sooner. When Vitor got sent off for them we dominated play and were playing really well but Christodoulopoulos got a second yellow for diving in the box the game changed and it was much more even. We did manage to get the one important goal as substitute and debutant Pasquato scored from a Leto cross.
The game after PAOK was against recently promoted Pierikos and we really struggled and only just managed to win 3-2, we kept on taking the lead and then giving it away until we got the third and we actually managed to stay ahaed. Then we went up against Panionios who I was expecting a tough game against we actually played amazing and managed to batter them 4-0 with Pasquato getting a brace. Xanthi were up next and we replicated our previous result but this time Yaya got a hat trick sealing an easy win for us. The next game was against Levadeiakos who w really should be beating and we played extremely poor and just couldn’t get going which was really disappointing but we put this result behind us and carry on. We then had two games against Tripolis and Atromitos where we played really well getting two very comfortable wins which is pleasing.
We are the only team to remain unbeaten so far this season and we are top of the league by only one point but I reckon we can pull away in the next one or two months.
Champions League Results
The first game was against Malaga at home and I went for a very attacking line up and we did really well. It began really badly however as we went a goal down as Cazorla scored a tap in. I feared the worst at this point but after that they didn’t really have a sniff at goal for the rest of the game.
The next champions league game was against Metalist and this would be a tougher test than the Malaga game due to it being away and a hostile atmosphere. It was an extremely tight game and both teams created plenty of chances but just couldn’t score in the first half. We finally scored in the second half as Christodoulopoulos scored from a cross and we doubled our league late on. They did pull back a goal but it was only a consolation.
The final champions league game of this month and we welcomed the big boys Manchester United to Athens. I was really unsure how I should approach this game and decided to use my attacking tactic but I played most of the game on counter and defend. We had to soak up an awful lot of pressure throughout the game but hit them on the break a number of times and we actually punished them three times making the game 3-0. This was a great performance and i can’t quite believe it and this means we have won all three of our Champions League games which is much more than I was expecting.
We have played extremely well in the Champions League and I am extremely proud with how we have done against some good teams. I will now be looking to finish first in this group as it’s definitely possible.
